Eastern SPF Lumber: Eastern Spruce, Pine, and Fir
Seaboard’s foundation was built on Eastern SPF lumber. With a nearby manufacturing base, our roots are deep and our relationships strong. In addition to direct rail and truck deliveries, we distribute from more than a dozen locations from border points to inland locales.
We pride ourselves on being a top customer for numerous mills with Eastern SPF lumber sales into nearly every state in the continental United States.
Eastern SPF lumber is comprised of Spruce, Pine, and Fir grown in Eastern Canada and New England.
The biggest differentiation between Eastern SPF and Western SPF lumber is the region in which the trees grow. Because of their region of origin, Eastern SPF trees grow more slowly, which increases the strength and resiliency of the lumber, making it the perfect choice for structural support.
Benefits of Eastern SPF Lumber:
- High strength to weight ratio
- Dimensional stability
- Takes to glue, adhesives, paint, screws, and nails well
- Meets many building code requirements
The Eastern SPF Lumber Industry Maintains a Low-Energy Cost
According to the North American Forest Foundation, the American lumber industry (which includes Eastern SPF lumber) consumes only 4% of the total energy used in raw materials manufacturing. source
